A Haiku for a Father's Birthday

Birth

born the fifth, to love

undiminished, for the earth

to nurture in grace.

Youth

he climbs and hops from

tree to tree, as the sunlight

drowns him in glory

Romance

in the throes of love

he finds himself with a woman

before that rock falls.

Fate

perhaps, it was fate

that had him ordained to a life

of blessed singleness.

Wedding

it rained, there and then

as he was bonded to her

by will, by heaven.

Birth (1)

bereft of that life,

to see himself be reborn,

graced him with a smile.

Birth (2)

in silence, he prayed

for the will of Providence -

then, the cry of life.

Morning

sweat dripping, he smiles

as he hears his kin wake up

to smell the fried rice.

Mahjong

tablets, coins and

the unmistakable sound

of friendly laughter.

Patience

the clock ticking, he waits

and waits, for her, him and them

to return to his arms.

Stage

his heart is humming

as he looks at his children

climbing up the stage.

Anger

sometimes, it cannot

be helped, if the dam must break

it does, with regret.

Sadness

a pillar of life he

must remain, though tears still do

appear on his face.

Birthday

every year, there is

reason to cook, and to laugh

to drink and to dine.

Son to Father

little else should be

said, when all is plain and clear, when

love is just right here.

indeed, larry. my husband's tears fell. he got so emotional. the following day, he read the letter again then texted his son and thank him. this haiku comes with a letter, too, that is why he's so touched.

you both looked good in your profile pic. lovely.
