How Not to Hate Yourself

There are two things that signals one to work on loving himself/herself and not to hate it.  While criticism can be a form of simply assessing one's self, it could be disastrous when it appears to be more like a verbal disapproval.

First is self criticism.  This may come in the form of disliking one's self and assessing it as not smart enough, not fit, dull, ugly, or stupid.  Second is criticism to others.  It is the same as criticizing one's self only that it involves other people.  This also tells that one does not like himself/herself.

I had once written about the ill-effects of comparing ourselves to others.  In addition, if you always compare yourself to others, this also signals that you cannot accept who you are.  When you always compare, you always find that there are people better than yourself.  When you compare, you loose.  Have you ever tried comparing yourself to others and discover that you are equally the same? There is no such thing.

What you think about yourself is more important than what you think about others.  Truly there are people who cannot decide on what is good for them.  And if they cannot decide for themselves, who would?

If you always give reason for the things that you do, you only convince yourself.  You are not convincing other people but yourself.  You do not need to explain yourself to other people.

When you think you are lacking, and neglect yourself with the things that it needs, then therefore you do not love yourself and do not recognize its worth.

Try working on improving yourself, therefore by:

  • discarding envy and sinful ways
  • learning to praise or accept praises
  • learning to show love and accept it from others
  • working on your health
  • tossing aside the belief that you are always right

While you give more time on your deficiencies, the world will punish you, and you also punish yourself.  When you do not like yourself, the world will not like you also.
