How to Answer Difficult Interviews

The process of job interviews is full of analysis on one’s personality and questions that tackle important job skills.  To figure out how to answer these difficult questions is stressful especially for those entry level job seekers and even for those career veterans.

One should learn to polish confidence to answer even the most difficult career questions.  Follow carefully the suggestions below and you will probably shine in your interviews:

  1. Expect each question that the job interviewer will give.  Make a list of standard but difficult questions like “Tell me about yourself” and “Why should I hire you?”  Search the net or the library of the list of job interview questions and answers.  Make a list of 25 questions for the said interview.  Write down your answers to the said questions.  Do not memorize your answer but answer anyway to be familiar of the subject matter.
  2. Practice answering the difficult questions.  Live out the question and answer session with a trusted friend.  Give her or him your 25 questions.   A couple of hours practice is important before meeting the potential employer.  Boost your confidence by answering repeatedly the difficult questions.  Do this to lessen the fear or the doubt you have in yourself.
  3. Video tape your mock interview in front of your former teacher, boss or mentor.  Your objective is to create a simulated interview environment.  He or she will act as the interviewer.  Dress up for this practice. Record with a video tape.  If you do not have video equipment, try a tape recorder.
  4. Review your taped interview.  Watch your body language and assess any sign of panic or fear.  Carefully listen to your answers to the questions.   Make adjustments or corrections if necessary before meeting up with the potential employer.
  5. Write down your own questions.   Be calm and avoid being anxious while preparing for the interview, and while being interviewed.   Ask the interviewer about management style and job expectations.  Evaluate your potential employer’s personality and traits.  Prepare thought provoking questions about your possible responsibilities so that the interviewer will know that you are interested about the position and that you are the most qualified applicant for the job.

Thanks for these great tips, Bingskee. Video-taping. I do this with learners in class (but mobile recorded video) and most are surprised to see how they just couldn't keep their hands still when talking and other things.

I would love to share this Hub.

Hope you are fine. Best Wishes. x
