Life's Experiences
72The Way We Learn
We learn from the moment our mental faculties are developed during childhood. Our learning are developed from the sounds we hear and the things we see and feel. We learn with the help of those around us, from our parents, our siblings, our schoolmates, our playmates, or our relatives, or even from strangers.
The manner of learning is always the same and it is always based on our need to know.
Experiences are Our Best Teachers
The nature of life is for us to discover the truth on our own. We are all bound to this desire to discover and as life's defense, it is experiences that we encounter. The experiences that we get from dealing with life are actually our best teachers.
They say experiences comes from doing, not from being told. True enough, we learn from experiencing things in life not just by merely reading or listening. We are told, for example, that patience is a virtue, and we do learn of it as true not until we experience to be patient in the bleakest and darkest and difficult times of our lives.
We can never learn that it pays to be respectful to others until we learn to respect. We can never learn that striving to attain a goal is hard unless we confront the obstacles that block our way to reach it.
Experiences, good and bad, are spices that make life palatable. Though for others, bad experiences are the poison that debilitate and numb our being, they must be considered otherwise. In truth, bad experiences make life colorful and by saying it, they teach more about goodness or excellence. How can one identify good when bad is missing?
Dealing with Life's Experiences
Good experiences are intoxicating and maybe treated not as serious as bad experiences. Either way, these experiences are to be dealt with carefully. The way we treat the good experiences we encounter is as important as to how we deal with the bad experiences.
Good experiences can turn sour if we do not nurture them. The way we nurture them is by way of putting the lessons learned from them into practice more often but very carefully. As said, they can be intoxicating, and we could be drowned by the fullness or the richness that we forget that we have to put them to good use, too, so that they do not become bad experiences in the end.
