Hitting It Off Via Text Messaging, Chatting and Video Conferencing

From the day the cellular phone craze started, life seemed easier. It is not a common sight now to see somebody asking a favor to use a neighbor’s telephone (The neighbor happens to be the only one in the area with a telephone). In the past, someone has to wait for many days or weeks for a snail mail, that contains news, to arrive. It is not happening now, as I see it. I do not know of anyone anymore who writes letters to or from abroad or far-off place. To top it all, life became easiest, with the birth of the internet.

Currently, it is an effortless activity to communicate with friends, loved ones, or anybody, through chat or teleconferencing, with matching video. Literally, it is now a small world with the onset of technology advancements, which is almost like impossible several decades ago.

It is to one’s advantage when he is knowledgeable, or well-informed, or educated, about these technology developments. It is beyond doubt beneficial especially to those who want to get to know better a special person. Before, when a Filipino guy lacks the courage to approach a girl, he would send flowers and a letter signed anonymously (or from a secret admirer). But today, through text messaging, or missed calls, or messages through FB (or simply clicking the like button), chat boards, or video conferencing, the hints get across that easy. If one needs a friend or partner, there is always an available queue of ever ready text mates or chat mates.

It is no news today to hear of love stories emanating or that emanated via text messaging or chatting. A number became husbands and wives where their love stories began from a single text message or a simple ‘hi’ or ‘asl’ from the chat room. It is undeniably trouble-free having instant friend and later, instant lover.

In summary, these technology developments, updates, or advancements, are good unless they fall into the hands of the evil ones who are always on the look-out for victims or preys. There are always the pros and cons.

The disadvantages will always fall with misuse and abuse, with dishonesty and ill motives. With these tools for easier communication, it is very easy for anybody to hide behind a mask, or fool or deceive with pretensions someone who is interested. Without caution, and out of ignorance, the receiver of these instant messages can become a victim, without a tad of an idea that he/she is already communicating with a child molester, a drug addict, a sex maniac or pervert, a rapist, a killer, a thief, a kidnapper, or a swindler.

The objectives of continual updates and advancements in technology are undoubtedly for every user’s gain. The motive is defeated when someone messes about the real purpose or intention. It pays to always be cautious therefore.
